IMUN, Italian Model United Nations, is a project that involves several schools from all the country articulating itself in different regional editions.
IMUN is organized by United Network (UN) that organizes simulations all over the world in partnership with institutions and international organizations.

Over the years IMUN became the biggest ONU simulation of Europe, in which participate over 6000 students every year.

Model United Nations are simulations of the General assembly of the United Nations or of other multilateral bodies in which students elaborate on themes object of the international political notebook by wearing the clothing of diplomats or ambassadors.

The students or “delegates” develop the activities typical of diplomacy: they hold speeches, prepare drafts of resolution, negotiate with allies and adversaries and resolve conflicts.

The whole project takes place in English and every participant has to work individually representing one of the 193 member states of the United Nations.

This year in Venice will take place the second edition of IMUN Venice 2019.

The simulation will take place from 28 till 30 January and student from all Veneto will participate.

This project also sees the involvement of Leonardo, Education Formation Job, corporate body that deals with the coordination of the United Network projects in partnership with Liceo Benedetti- Tommaseo of Venice.

Some students will simulate the WFP (World food program) committee which missions are:

-save lives and protect livelihoods in emergencies

-support food security and nutrition and rebuild livelihoods

-reduce risks and enable people, communities and countries to meet their own food and nutrition needs

-reduce under nutrition and break the intergenerational cycle of hunger.

WFP helps victims of natural disasters, displaced people and the world’s hungry poor .

It operates underdeveloped nations from sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East to Latin America and Asia.

Every day WFP works to achieve the vision of a zero hunger world.

In full alignment with the 2030 Agenda got sustainable development, WFP has set the “2017-2021 strategic plan”, which aims at guiding WFP trough the implementation of the 2030 Agenda by proving it with a framework.

Furthermore, the objective of this plan is to support countries in ending hunger and to support a common, people-centered , needs-driven approach guided by humanitarian principles.

A big problem WFP is fighting against is food waste.

Each year approximately one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption gets lost or wasted: that equates to nearly 1.3 billion tons of consumable food .

Nowadays the issue of food waste has become highly relevant in the efforts to combat hunger and improve food security in the world’s poorest countries.

Food wastage causes economic loss as well as damage to the environment.

So now that we now the objectives of WFP and some problems in the next days of IMUN the delegates will have to find solutions.

Aren’t you curious to find out which solutions they will find together?

In the next days we will find out!
